Leather bound brass telescope which was owned successively by four members of the Tripler family. Inscription on barrel reads: Presented by the British Government / to / Messrs. Martin J. Lyons, George Chenoworth / and James Hanes, Pilots belonging to the New York / Pilot Boat "FANNIE" in acknowledgment of their / humane services to the crew of the Schooner "VIATOR" of Lunenburg, N: S: whom they rescued from the/ wreck of that Vessel on 19th Jany. 1864. / Troughton & Simms. / London. Mahogany box-jointed case with brass fittings 27 5/8" x 3 3/4" x 3 5/16".
