Lantern slide prepared by F.C. Lockwood of Brooklyn, NY, from an original photograph (1963.1767.161) by Capt. George Comer. Used by Comer to illustrate lectures about his Arctic and seafaring experiences. Depicts an Inuit angakok [shaman] wearing an elaborate parka. The man is identified as Qingailisaq, and his costume was inspired by a vision. Photo taken onboard the whaling schooner ERA, west coast of Hudson Bay, ca. 1902.
