Gelatin print; starboard stern view of sloop yacht GLORIANA on the ways. Mounted on cardboard. Handwritten in pencil on back "Gloriana". Duplicate of 1946.479.22. [GLORIANA, designed by N.G. Herreshoff, built for E.D. Morgan by Herreshoff Mfg. Co., 1891, Bristol, RI; during her first season won all 8 races in her class before being "sportingly" withdrawn "to let the other 10 or 11 yachts fight it out among themselves." It was this yacht more than any other that put "Captain Nat" in the forefront of American yacht builders; in this photograph taken circa 1900 she is shown in dry dock presumably preparing for another yachting season.
