Cape Cod catboat SANSHEE

Cape Cod catboat

WATERCRAFT
Anderson, Charles A.
USA, MA, Wareham
Circa 1915
LOA 14 ft. 4 in.; beam 6 ft. 7 in.

Sanshee is one of about 40 such boats built by Charles A. Anderson in his Wareham, Massachusetts, shop. Being small and simple they were easily handled; yet there was a good bit of room in their cockpits for a sailing party of several persons. These catboats for daysailing and racing were shrunk-down versions of the working catboats of the Cape Cod area. As one can gather from reading The Catboat Book, there were many different models of small catboats by many different builders, and it was rare for a builder not to be the designer as well. Sanshee's builder did build boats to the designs of others on occasion. The well-known 59-foot motorsailer Nor"Easter, which he built in 1927
was designed by William H. Hand, Jr.

Upon her arrival at Mystic, Sanshee was sailed in Mystic Seaport's Youth Training Program for a few seasons before being restored as part of the formal catboat exhibit.
