Oil on canvas of packet ship SAMOSET, c. 1851; attributed to Duncan McFarlane (active Liverpool, 1818-1865); starboard view of ship with painting ports, under short sail; deckhouses & bulwarks green, Indian figurehead, gold star & cathead. Nine figures are visible on deck, 5 signal flags fly from mizzenmast; auxiliary sidewheel (Collins Line ATLANTIC?) barkentine is in right background; dark, stormy sky is brightened by light patch in upper center portion.
