Half model of oyster sloop HUSTLER on board. Brass mountings, lines, wooden blocks, and spars on model. Coiled lines and anchor at bow. Pencil markings over varnished board. Label lower right: "Oyster sloop 'HUSTLER' of Greenport, N.Y./ 34' O.A. x 14 Beam/ Built 1893 at Patchogue, Long Is./ Builders type half model to reproduce lines for Smithsonian. No original half/ models have been found for this type/ scale 3/4 in. = 1 ft." Four labels on reverse of board, left to right: "Head stay/ to bale on cap"; "Throat halyard/ 2 double blocks on gaff/ 2 single blocks on mast/ head, lead to port, cleated/ at mast"; "Wire lift/ to block at mast/ head, thence to port/ rail with long gun tackle". Written in pencil on center of board's reverse: "SCALLOP SLOOB (sic) HUSTLER/ BUILT AT PATCHOQUE (sic) L.I. NY/ IN 1892. ABANDONED ABT. 1935. SCALE 3/4 IN FT." Model made in early 1970's for H.I. Chapelle. This is a model done "by eye", not working.
