This plate from Fred Cozzens "American Yachts" series shows the downwind start of a race in the November 1881 ATALANTA vs. MISCHIEF series. Plenty of artistic license was used here as the Canadian challenger was completely outclassed, never close to the defender. Spectator interest was also almost non existent; the sidewheeler went home.
