Chinese export porcelain soap dish consisting of dish, preforated strainer insert, & lid w/knob. White ground w/blue floral underglaze pattern similar to FitzHugh. Enamel overdecoration of pink, yellow, & green floral motifs & gold highlighting. 4 reserves on lid each contain stylized lion or foo dog. Network border on both lid & strainer. Lid is chipped, cracked, & poorly repaired. Brought home by Capt. Simon Merrill Sewall, clipper FLYAWAY, 1854-1858.
