One of a pair of the insignia worn by members of the former United States Lifesaving Service. [See also 62.731.2] Pin is crossed oars over a life preserver. The Lifesaving Service was merged with the Revenue Cutter Service in 1915. The resulting organization became the modern Coast Guard. Saving lives and property at sea is still a primary mission of the Coast Guard. Gold plated.
