SHIPS PLANS120 sheets, representing 104 designs. These vessel drawings are from the personal research collection of Marion Vernon Brewington and his wife Dorothy E. R. Brewington, maritime historians and authors. These drawings are sail plans traced or copied by the Brewingtons from original sailmakers gore books or individual plans. The dates recorded from the original plans are for vessels measured by sailmakers between 1849 and 1935. The vessels are primarily working watercraft of the Chesapeake Bay area, and some of the firms named are Loane Brothers, Hudgins-Dize, W. L. Godfrey, and John R. Mitchell. These sail lofts are discussed in Mr. Brewingtons Chesapeake Bay Bugeyes (1941). Representative plans include bugeyes, skipjacks, schooners, sloops, and scows.
