5 x 7 Kodak safety negative photographed by Rosenfeld and Sons on September 15, 1934. Port beam view of the motor yacht ALVA, seen transporting a Douglas Dolphin 1 Special aeroplane [NC 14208]. ALVA was designed by Cox & Stevens, Inc. and built in Kiel, Germany by Krupp-Germania Werft in 1931. She was owned by the Vanderbilt family of New York and was named after William Kissam Vanderbilt Jr.'s mother Alvak Ershine Smith Vanderbilt. She was given to the U.S. Navy in 1942 and torpedoed off North Carolina that same year. Handwritten on original negative sleeve: "Alva". Stamped: "SEP 15 1934".
