8x10 glass negative photographed by James Burton circa 1898. Image of a stateroom on NIAGARA showing a bed with a partial canopy and a wicker chair. NIAGARA was a 272' screw steam bark built in 1898 and owned by Howard Gould from 1898 to 1917 when World War I broke out and was then owned by the U.S. Navy until 1939. She was built by Harlan & Hollingsworth Company of Wilmington, Delaware from designs by W. G. Shackford. Handwritten info.: "540 /NIAGARA / INTERIOR."
