Rhodes designed, Palmer Scott & Co., Ltd. built auxiliary yawl MERRY MAIDEN (built 1947 in New Bedford, Mass.), 57' Sparkman & Stephens designed, Simms Brothers built auxiliary yawl ARGYLL (built 1948 in Dorchester, Mass.), and 53' Sparkman & Stephens designed, Minneford Yacht Yard built auxiliary schooner BOUNDING HOME (built 1933 in City Island, N.Y.) at New York Yacht Club Race from Glen Cove to Port Jefferson. Visible in image: port bow views of BOUNDING HOME (A/11) MERRY MAIDEN (135), ARGYLL (125), JULIE (122) and three unidentified sail vessels running before the wind under marconi-rigged mainsails and headsails, JULIE's spinnaker has broken free and caught on MERRY MAIDEN's mizzen mast, a crew member is cutting it free, MERRY MAIDEN's own spinnaker is caught in an hourglass bind.
