5 x 7 Kodak safety negative photographed by Rosenfeld and Sons on June 20, 1935 on the Thames River, New London, Connecticut. Starboard bow view taken from an elevated position of the 72' commuter yacht APHRODITE coming to watch the Harvard-Yale Races on June 22nd. APHRODITE was designed and built by the Albany Boat Corporation of Watervliet, New York in 1928. She was powered by two, gas, Wright-Typhoon made engines and is seen here flying the Whitney Greentree burgee and the New York Yacht Club pennant. An elaborate scroll can be seen on her starboard bow, and her curved glass forward windows on the deckhouse are evident. Her owner from 1928 to 1936 was John Hay Whitney. The image also shows the river bank with a water tower, train tracks, and private homes visible. Stamped on negative sleeve: "71444F / JUN 20 1935 / NEW LONDON 1935".
