Mr. Stephens was born in Philadelphia, and a graduate of Rutgers University in 1873. He died on May 10, 1946 at age 91. He was known as "the father of American Yacht reporting". Typed on original negative sleeve: "112898F / 9/22/45 / Stephens / 4877". Handwritten on original sleeve: "W.P. / died May 10, 1946". Note: Most prints from this negative show cropped bust view.
