8x10 glass negative photographed by James Burton at the end of the second race of the America's Cup on August 25, 1903. This image was taken in New York Bay off New York of RELIANCE, the American defender, undersail, starboard beam view at the finish of the second race. RELIANCE was a 143' cutter built in 1903 by Herreshoff Manufacturing Company of Bristol, Rhode Island and designed by Nathanael Greene Herreshoff. The SANDY HOOK lightship can be see to the right of the cutter in the background. Handwritten on neg. sleeve: "B-930 / RELIANCE, Aug. 22, 1903".
