8 x 10 glass negative photographed by James Burton circa 1900. Starboard beam view of the steamship DEUTSCHLAND underway with 4 smoke stacks and 2 masts. The S/S DEUTSCHLAND was a 660' German passenger steamship launched in 1989 in Germany and sailed for the Hamburg-America Line and was the only Hamburg-American liner to win the "Blue Ribbon" in 1900 across the Atlantic with a top speed of 23 knots. Handwritten negative sleeve info.: "B-378 / S.S. DEUTSCHLAND". Handwritten from negative on the emulsion side: "Deutschland / 378 / 1536".
