5x7 copy safety negative made by Rosenfeld and Sons in 1958 for use in a book. Original image was photographed by Nathaniel L. Stebbins. Image of VOLUNTEER undersail, port beam view. VOLUNTEER, U.S. America's Cup 1887 defender, was a 107'6" gaff-rigged cutter built by Pusey & Jones of Wilmington, Delaware, fitted and rigged by George Lawley & Son, and designed by Edward Burgess. She had a centerboard and steering wheel. The captain during the America's Cup was Hank Haff and she was built for General Charles T. Paine. The original image was copied by the Rosenfelds from a book published in 1887 by Edward Burgess titled, AMERICAN AND ENGLISH YACHTING, Plate III.
