Wells. View of the sponsor, Mrs. Walter O. Briggs, posed, wife of the owner, Mr. Walter O. Briggs, Sr., standing with a christening bottle in one hand and a large bouquet of roses in the other getting ready to strike the bow of the vessel for the christening ceremony. Mr. Briggs, Sr. (1877-1952) made his fortune in the auto body industry in Detroit, Michigan and was the owner from 1936 to 1952 of the baseball team the Detroit Tigers.
