8 x 10 nitrate negative taken by Rosenfeld and Sons on April 23, 1924. View of a small stateroom aboard the United States Lines' passenger ship REPUBLIC, launched as SERVIAN in 1903. "Though small, this first-class stateroom is appointed with carpeting, running water, and a steam radiator for heat. Curtains offer privacy for the wooden berths, which are covered with handsome spreads with the U.S. Shipping Board logo. As refitted, the ship had about 200 of these staterooms with two, three or four berths." (Log of Mystic Seaport, Spring 2000, Volume 51, No. 4".
