Sterling silver LIVONIA yacht trophy with silver gilt interior. Removable lid has interlocking pattern of large 5-pointed stars & small English roses, surmounted by 2 figures, Britannia kneeling & Columbia standing. Columbia appears to have once held something, perhaps a trident or flag. Hallmark stamped under lid indicates cup made by J., E., W., & J. Barnard of London, dated 1868-69. Maker's mark & partial hallmark on top. Lip edge has a rope motif and the body of the cup has tridents and alternating panels of oak leaves & unidentified leaves. Cast lion heads & American eagles alternate around midsection of cup. Engraved on front panel: "This cup was presented by Americans in London/ to/ MR. J. ASBURY/ Whose Schooner Lavonia (sic)/ won one race for the/ America's Cup/ Oct. 19th 1871." Opposite panel has relief scene showing LIVONIA leading another schooner. Floral pattern continues over entire cup.
