Nixon from patterns (see 1996.3.2-48) made while a student at Carnegie Institute of Technology, Pittsburgh, PA, in 1914; engine cast at Eastern Malleable Iron, Naugatuck, CT; in 1930s engine installed in plywood boat built by Nixon for the engine; boat used by his family on Lake Quassapaug, Middlebury, CT. Engine painted gray; brass builder's plate "Built by John F. Nixon, CIT, 1914."
