8x10 glass negative photographed by Charles Edwin Bolles in 1903. Image of HAUOLI at rest or underway slow showing a starboard bow view on Long Island Sound. HAUOLI was a 211' schooner-rigged steam yacht, later renamed CALIFORNIA IN 1913, and was built in 1903 by J. N. Robins Company of South Brooklyn, New York from designs by Henry J. Gielow. Her owner from 1903 to 1913 was Frank M. Smith of New York City, New York and he also owned a 153' HAUOLI built in 1902 for 1 year. Mr. Smith named his vessel HAUOLI after the Hawaiian word 'delight'. Handwritten neg. sleeve info.: "Y130 / Hauoli / Y130 / Box 13 / (Hauoli 2 / 1903)".
