5x7 Defender safety copy negative made by Rosenfeld and Sons from a from a book. The original photographer was Nathaniel L. Stebbins of Boston, Massachusetts. Image is of the cutter MAYFLOWER, undersail, starboard beam view. MAYFLOWER was a 100' sloop built in 1886 by George Lawley and Son of South Boston, Massachusetts from designs by Edward Burgess. She was an America's Cup defender and winner in 1886 and was an potential America's Cup contender during the trials in 1887. Images show her as cutter rigged in 1886. Stamped original negative sleeve information: "158848F / [Box] 5635". Handwritten: "Mayflower / 1886 / Pg 111". The original image was copied by the Rosenfelds from a book published in 1887 by Edward Burgess titled, AMERICAN AND ENGLISH YACHTING, Plate III.
