5x7 safety negative photographed by Rosenfeld and Sons during the time of the Bermuda Race in 1936. Image of a Class A start with many sailing vessels racing, starboard bow and starboard beam views. To the left of the image in the foreground is the large yawl, EDLU, with the sail number of #56. In the background are other various types of sailing vessels. EDLU, later known as WYNFRED in 1938, was a 56'2" sloop, built in 1934 and re-rigged in 1936 by Rudolph J. Schaefer, Jr., the original owner, as a yawl. She was built by Henry B. Nevins, Incorporated of City Island, New York and designed by Sparkman and Stephens, Incorporated. The name EDLU comes from Mr. Schaefer's 2 daughters Edmee and Lucy put together.
