5x7 safety negative photographed by Rosenfeld and Sons on July 7,1928 at the start of the Spanish Ocean Race. Image was taken from the deck of a large vessel showing a long shot of vessels participating in the race. From left to right: TUKA, a tug-shaped vessel with a rounded bow and stern, twin masts and smokestack in the center. In the center is ELENA, a 1911 schooner, 136'6", #17, built and designed by Herreshoff of Bristol, RI. In the distance to the right is ZODIAC, a 1924 William H. Hand, Jr. design built by Hodgdon Brothers of East Boothbay, Maine at 126'10" in 1926 and behind her is ATLANTIC, a 3-masted schooner. Typed negative sleeve info.: "29223-F".
