5x7 safety negative photographed by Rosenfeld and Sons on July 7,1928 at the start of the Spanish Ocean Race. Image was taken from the deck of a large vessel of a general scene of spectators and one of the participants, ELENA. In the background to the left showing a port bow view is ELENA, #17, a 1911 gaff-rigged schooner, 136'6", built and designed by Herreshoff of Bristol, Rhode Island. In the foreground are two cruisers and the one on the right, starboard quarter view, is named HERMIT, a 68'3" Eldredge-McInnis design and ACF built (1928) vessel home ported in Rumson, New Jersey.
