5x7 safety negative photographed by Rosenfeld and Sons on July 7,1928 at the start of the Spanish Ocean Race. Image was taken from the deck of a large vessel and at the bow of the vessel is a cameraman taking moving pictures on the left and there are two sailors on the right watching the race. In the distance in the center is the schooner ZODIAC, a 1924 William H. Hand, Jr. design built by Hodgdon Brothers of East Boothbay, Maine at 126'10" in 1926. To the right behind ZODIAC is the 3-masted schooner ATLANTIC, built in 1903 at 185' and made of steel by the builder Townsend & Downey Shipbuilding Company of Shooters Island, New York from designs by Gardner & Cox. In the foreground on the right is ELENA, #17, a 1911 gaff-rigged schooner, 136'6", built and designed by Herreshoff of Bristol, Rhode Island. Typed negative sleeve info.: "29227-F".
