From William Peterson (2005-03-05) "In spite of the written caption I believe this is actually October 10, 1889. This was the day the Rail Road Drawbridge over the Thames was officially opened. The ferry GROTON was a rail road (car carrying) ferry and this was the end of her Thames River career. On that day she steamed up the river going through the east passage of the new bridge and came back through the west passage (shown here). The vessel on the left is probably under repair at Bragaw's Shipyard."
