Soft negative by F. Slade Dale of the Coast Guard Patrol Boat CG-282. Taken while the HERBERT L. RAWDING was en route with freight, from Miami, FL to New Bedford, MA on the week of April 27, 1926. The photographer was hitching a ride aboard the RAWDING, home from a voyage south he had taken aboard a twelve-foot sneakbox. This negative shows a port beam view of the U.S. Coast Guard Patrol Boat CG-282 that was built as an inshore patrol boat to combat smuggling during Prohibition. She was built by the John H. Mathis Yacht Building Company of Camden, NJ and was one of 203 75-footers built by 17 different boat yards. Reference: "U.S. Coast Guard Cutters & Craft of World War II" by Robert L.
