Hammond leaning on a wrought iron fence overlooking a harbor area with an American bulldog standing by his feet. The gentleman is dressed for yachting and wears spectacles. Mr. Hammond was the inventor of the Hammond Vrityper typewriter patented in 1884. James B. Hammond is known to also have designed and owned the 46'10" yawl, LOUNGER, built in 1892 until his death in 1913 as well as LOUNGER (later known as LOUNGER II), a 95' screw schooner steam yacht built in 1911 from designs by James B.
