8 x 10 gelatin silver print taken by James Burton between 1887 and 1909. Posed view of the J. G. Bennett Steam Yacht Cup. Silver cup with relief image of steam yachts crossing open waters, flanked by mermaid figures. James Gordon Bennett was a businessman born in 1841. He started the Commercial Cable Company in 1883, which laid transatlantic cables between the years of 1884-1923. He died in 1918. He was a previous owner of the 'New York Herald' newspaper.
