5x7 glass negative photographed by Rosenfeld and Sons on October 1, 1923. Image of two New York 30' Herreshoff sloops undersail, starboard bow view on a close reach port tack, both have gaff-rigged main sails and jibs raised, burgees flying from mainmasts. The leading sloop LENA (NY/5) flies a triangular burgee with white wedge with star in field, crew in cockpit, town and smaller boats in background. Originally named PINTAIL, she was a 43'6" New York 30 Class built sloop, sail #NY5 and later #NYYC5. She was built in 1905 by Herreshoff Mfg. of Bristol, Rhode Island and designed by Nathanael G. Herreshoff. Later names were: GOSSIP, YOLANDA, LENA, COCKATOO II, LENA again and COCKATOO II again. The owner of LENA in 1923 was Ogden M. Reid. Typed on original negative sleeve: "11314-F" and handwritten: "10/1/23 / NY5 [crossed out] / Content / Box 1017". CREDIT LINE: Mystic Seaport, Rosenfeld Collection.
