4 x 5 Kodak safety negative taken by Rosenfeld and Sons on June 21, 1939. View of Governor Baldwin of Connecticut, seen posed with serving knife, placing slice of ham onto a plate held by man, dressed like the hotel chef. Image taken in the Hotel Lexington, New York City, June 21, 1939. In this negative, a mirror is seen at end of buffet, behind which a boy and two unidentified men watch over the photo shoot, the real chef is seen standing to the far right (cropped from printing of image). Raymond Earl Baldwin was a Republican Governor of Connecticut 1939-1941, and again 1943-1946. This photograph is part of a series of images taken for hire by the Lexington Hotel, currently the Radisson Lexington Hotel in the corner of 48th Street and Lexington Ave. It became well known for its Hawaiian Room, a night club offering native Hawaiian singers of the times. The series may be part of a 10 year celebration of the Hotel, which opened in 1929, or part of a promotion relating to the World's Fair. Typed on original negative sleeve: "54783 6/21/39 / Hotel Lex-48th St & Lex Ave, City / Governor Baldwin in group / Mr. Sutton / 2542-5".
