Image taken as part of long term commissioned work and documentation for the American Telephone & Telegraph Company, ranging from 1910 through the 1940s. Image shows a group of trench diggers working in a muddy field. Group of ten men work in the foreground digging through a field with stick tools. Men are submerged to their knees in mud, while another group of men can be seen in the distance. Homes and larger buildings are seen on the horizon. Image taken on June 30, 1916, the specific location is unidentified, probably New York or New Jersey area. Handwritten on original negative sleeve: "Neg. No. 5624 / 6/30/16 / 455--8 / Telephone Co / Mr [Mort__?] / TrenchDigger / Box 455".
