4x5 safety negative photographed by Rosenfeld and Sons June 21, 1940 at the time of the Yale-Harvard Races held on the Thames River off New London, Connecticut. Elevated view looking down at APHRODITE underway, port quarter view on the river. Riverbank with a hill and houses in the distance on the far side. APHRODITE was the 3rd vessel of the same name owned by Whitney family and was a 74' Purdy designed and built express commuter yacht built in 1937 and owned by John Hay Whitney.
