5x7 glass negative photographed by Rosenfeld and Sons on July 11, 1924. Image of the auxiliary yawl FILATONGA during the Block Island Race. Visible in image: starboard quarter view of yawl on port close-hauled tack with marconi-rigged main and mizzen sails, mizzen staysail, clubfooted main staysail, jib and flying jib raised, burgee- light square with dark borders, otter or dragon with diamond over it- flying from mizzen mast, two men tending sails. VIRANDA, also later known as FILATONGA and then VIRGINIAN, was a 46' yawl built in 1891 by George Lawley & Son Corporation from designs by George Lawley. Typed on original negative sleeve: "12682-F" and handwritten: "7/11/24 / Block I. Race / Sailing class / Filatonga / Box 1106". CREDIT LINE: Mystic Seaport, Rosenfeld Collection. Condition: silvering almost overall, amber/ purplish discoloration, fingerprints, chipped emulsion on edges, chipped glass corners.
