Trade card for Turkey Red Cigarettes, Hudson-Fulton Series; color lithograph of ferry; printed at bottom "THE FERRYBOAT JERSEY"; printed in red on back "Was built about 1811 or 1812. Fulton designed many ferryboats to meet the demands of rapid traffic over the East and North Rivers. These boats were built of two separate hulls and were planked over; they could be propelled in either direction. Fulton also built the docks that rise and fall with the tide, the same principle being applied to ferry slips to-day." and "TURKEY RED/ CIGARETTES/ HUDSON-FUILTON/ SERIES/ FACTORY NO. 7, 3rd DIST., STATE OF NEW YORK". Probably published by American Tobacco Co. F. Calabretta notes: This is one of a series of cards issued in 1908 to honor the centennial of Robert Fulton's successful experiments with steamboats. It is an example of a trading card, a type of card influenced by the earlier trade cards.
