Photo-engraving, half tone, engraver's proof of illustration by Milton J. Burns; thought to be USS CONSTITUTION (built 1797) as a receiving ship in Portsmouth, NH, a "barracks" covers the deck; signed in the plate lower left "BurnS." Appears to be the same as 1984.67.41. History as receiving ship (1882-1897): "Old Ironsides" is laid up in New Hampshire at the Portsmouth Navy Yard, serving as a receiving ship for new recruits. A barn-like "barracks" structure is built on top of her hull" (accessed 11/30/2006; http://www.ussconstitution.navy.mil/historyupdat.htm#1861).
