Steamship memorabilia, dinner menu, QUEEN ELIZABETH 2 (built 1965-1967), August 21, 1982; dinner menu; photograph of octant; printed on front "The Octant/ Hadley designed the first practical Octant in 1731./ It was used principally for finding one's position/ at sea. Very similar to the sextant, the main/ difference being in the arc which was 45° (sextant/ 60°)./ Most octants were constructed of an ebony frame,/ brass radial arm and ivory scale.
