ANTARES (AKS-3, built 1922), general stores issue ship; front of envelope has cachet on left in green ink with USN shield in upper left, USN shield with crossed anchors behind on upper right, stars in lower left and lower right, profile of an unidentified navy ship in the center; printed above and below ship "HONORING/ A GREAT NAVY"; stamp on right depicts Susan B. Anthony in profile, printed on stamp "U.S. POSTAGE/ 3¢ SUSAN B. ANTHONY 3¢/ SUFFRAGE FOR WOMEN"; stamp postmarked "U.S.S./ A.M./ AUG/ 30/ 1937/ ANTARES."; postmarked on back "VALLEJO/ AUG 30/ 1130AM/ 1937/ CALIF." and "MARE ISLAND/ STATION"; handwritten on front "Back Stamped"; handwritten on back "039" and "4-". The U.S.S. ANTARES sighted the first enemy submarine during the attack on Pearl Harbor and was strafed and bombed (see correspondence file).
