Equipped with a stepped-up diesel power plant and an underwater/ breathing tube (snorkel), she cruises faster submerged than on the surface./ To preserve her streamlining, she carries no deck gun. Her acoustic torpedoes/ set their course by the engine noises of an enemy ship and 'home' in for the/ kill. For increased maneuveraility under the water, the postwar attack sub-/ marines are shorter than the fleet submarines of World War II.
