Langford who was a teacher aboard the vessel when it sank May 2, 1961; he used slides in this collection (2002.35.1-657) for lectures about the sinking. The following description of this slide is part of a transcription of a videotaped lecture from Richard Langford Collection AV 193:2002-5,6: [TCR 02:49:33]:
“That’s the remaining part of a volcano where we anchored one night [in the Galapagos]. And Spook [George Ptacnik, the cook] and I climbed the remains of the volcano the next day. That’s where I broke my left ankle.”
