35mm color slide from voyage of brigantine ALBATROSS 1960-1961; photographed by Richard E. Langford who was a teacher aboard the vessel when it sank May 2, 1961; he used slides in this collection (2002.35.1-657) for lectures about the sinking. The following description of this slide is part of a transcription of a videotaped lecture from Richard Langford Collection AV 193:2002-5,6: [TCR 02:50:03]:
“You can see these bubbles (light pointer) that used to be molten lava that cracked and split when they were hot and then froze in that position when they were cool [on a volcano in the Galapagos]. And there’s where lava just geysered out--spurted out--and then froze as it cooled.”
