First day cover for the U.S.S. BOBOLINK (AM-3, built 1918 ), minesweeper; front of envelope has cachet on left in black ink, two circles interlinked, almost like looking through binoculars depict three ships in distance with clouds of smoke, possibly from mine damage, six airplanes are seen flying in formation, artist's signature in lower right of image "ADAM"' printed in band around circles "NAVY DAY/ OCTOBER 27th"; stamp on right depicts John Adams in profile, printed on stamp "UNITED/ STATES/ POSTAGE/ JOHN/ ADAMS/ 1797-1801/ 2 CENTS 2"; stamp postmarked "U.S.S./ OCT/ 27/ 1939/ BOBOLINK" and "SAN DISGO/ CALIF"; typed address on front "Dr. E. V. Brumbaugh/ Milwaukee, Wis./ Health Dept. City Hall". The U.S.S. BOBOLINK was undamaged in the attack on Pearl Harbor and served as a salvage vessel after the attack (see correspondence file).
