First day cover for the U.S.S. DOBBIN (AD-3, built 1921 ), destroyer tender; front of envelope has no cachet; stamp on right features portrait of Warren G. Harding, printed on stamp "UNITED STATES POSTAGE/ HARDING/ 1-1/2 CENTS 1-1/2"; stamp postmarked "U.S.S. DOBBIN/ PM/ AUG 10/ 1934"; address on sticker "WM. C. POTTER/ 236 Main Street/ FAIRHAVEN, MASS." The U.S.S. DOBBIN had three men killed by dive bomber attack during the attack on Pearl Harbor, rescued many survivors (see correspondence file).
