HONOLULU (CL-48, built 1937), light cruiser; front of envelope has cachet on left featuring United States flag in red, white and blue, waving in the breeze; stamp on right depicts Warren G. Harding, printed on stamp "UNITED STATES POSTAGE/ HARDING/ 1-1/2 CENTS 1-1/2"; stamp postmarked "U.S.S./ JAN/ 1/A.M./ 1939/ HONOLULU." and "A JOYOUS/ NEW YEAR"; also postmarked "BROOKLYN/ JAN 1/ 1030PM/ N.Y." and "2"; address handwritten on front "Robt. E. Meeker/ 195 Gerke Ave.,/ Mansfield, Ohio/ U.S.A." The U.S.S. HONOLULU suffered minor hull damage during the attack on Pearl Harbor (see correspondence file).
