RAMSAY (DM-16, built 1918), destroyer minelayer; front of envelope has no cachet, two stamps on right, left stamp features portrait of Nathan Hale, printed on stamp "UNITED STATES POSTAGE/ NATHAN HALE/ 1/2 CENT 1/2", right stamp features portraits of John Paul Jones on left and John Barry on right with three square-rigged vessel in the middle, printed on stamp "UNITED STATES POSTAGE/ JONES/ BARRY/ BON HOMME RICHARD LEXINGTON/ 1 ONE CENT 1"; stamps postmarked "U.S.S./ JUN/ 30/ 1937/ A.M./ RAMSAY" and "SAN DIEGO/ CALIF"; address stamped on front "TAZEWELL G. NICHOLSON/ 724 Sixth Street/ PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA". The U.S.S. RAMSAY severely damaged or sank an enemy submarine during the attack on Pearl Harbor (see correspondence file).
