TANGIER (AV-8, built 1939), seaplane tender; front of envelope has cachet in blue and green ink, features unidentified navy ship at anchor, clouds in background bordered with spread-winged eagle, stars and banner, printed on left "UNITED STATES NAVY/ AUXILARIES (sic)"; stamp on right features portrait of Benjamin Franklin in profile, printed on stamps "UNITED/ STATES/ POSTAGE/ BENJAMIN/ FRANKLIN/ 1/2 CENT 1/2"; stamp postmarked "U.S.S. TANGIER/ SEP/ 10/ 1941/ REGISTERED". The U.S.S. TANGIER downed three enemy planes during the attack on Pearl Harbor and rescued survivors from the U.S.S. UTAH (see correspondence file).
