TENNESSEE (BB-43, built 1919), battleship; front of envelope has cachet in blue ink, features Hawaiian hula dancer in traditional costume, printed on left "THE/ 4TH/ IN/ HAWAII/ JOHN/ RODGERS/ CHAPTER/ NO. 26/ U.S.C.S."; stamp on right features portrait of George Washington, printed on stamp "UNITED STATES POSTAGE/ 1732 WASHINGTON 1932/ 1-1/2 CENTS 1-1/2"; stamp postmarked "U.S.S./ JUL/ 4/ A.M./ 1935/ TENNESSEE" and "HONOLULU T,H/ ROIC (?) CRUISE"; address typed on front "Mr. G. Gebhardt,/ c/o General Delivery,/ Dallas,/ Texas"; stamped in red on back "3273"; handwritten in green "3669"; handwritten in pencil "5-3503". The U.S.S. TENNESSEE was severely damaged by bombs and the explosion of the U.S.S. ARIZONA during the attack on Pearl Harbor (see correspondence file).
